Time passed by very fast and it has already been 6 months since I bought a website for this case study. To recap, for those who are new to this case study, I purchased a website for $11,878 in March 2020. The site was earning $628/month. Within 3 months, I’ve managed to double the earnings of the site by doing some adjustments and adding more content. In June 2020, the site was making $1587. That puts the value of the site at $47,610.
You can read the full detail here:
So for this MELEPAK session, I will be sharing what happen to the site after 6 months including stats like traffic and earnings. On top of that, I will also share my plan for the next 3 months before I consider selling it and cash out my profits. With that, let’s join me in the MELEPAK session!
Target Set In July Was Met
In July, I set 2 short term goals for this site in the next 3 months. The 2 goals are publishing more content of at least 150 articles (up from 92 live post in June) and to increase the earnings to $2000. Well, at the end of September 2020, I’ve managed to achieve both goals (Well, partly).
Goal #1: 150 Articles Published
For the first goal, technically, I did not meet the target. That’s because I’ve decided to spread the articles out and schedule them instead of publish them live there and then. So live post as of 1st October 2020 is 130 articles. But I have 23 articles scheduled weekly all the way till mid March 2021; for a grand total of 153 articles.
So if I do decide to stop creating more content for the next few months, I can be assured that the site will still have fresh content weekly. It is also a plus point when I do decide to sell the site as the new owner do not have to immediately create new content for the site.
But having said that, I will still outsource more content over the next 3 months and publish it immediately instead of scheduling them. This is to increase the traffic ASAP which will directly increase the earnings.
Goal #2: Increase earnings to $2000
Looking back in June, the earning was $1587. In September 2020, the earning reached $2150!! (Alhamdulillah) That is nearly 4x the original earnings when I bought the site. How awesome is that. And the best part is I can see a growing trend in earnings over the 3 months.
Here’s the breakdown:
- July 2020: $1458.59
- August 2020: $1818.78
- September 2020: $2150.45
What Have I Done For The Past 3 Months?
To be honest, my time spent on this website was minimal. If I am to put a number, it would probably be about 2 hours per week; which is the time spend to approve the content after my editor vet through and format them plus finding relevant image for each post. That’s the beauty of outsourcing. =p
PS: During this 3 same months, I managed to build a new site and a new side-hustle business.
Content Creation In July-September 2020
In the past 3 months, I’ve managed to publish 40 articles and scheduled another 24 articles over the next 6 months. All this is possible with outsourcing. As I’ve indicated in my 3 months update post, I’ve managed to get a good writer and an editor. Having a reliable freelancer definitely help in churning out quality content quickly.
Since I have already scheduled 1 post per week till March 2021, all future articles will be published immediately. Having a long scheduled content means it will add value when I do decide to sell the site.
So for the next 3 months, I will cut down on my content creation. I will probably aim for 2 articles per week (24 articles for the next 3 months).
Website Traffic for 3 Months
Traffic has increased steadily. Not much link building was done but keywords ranking and traffic has seen an increased over the 3 months. Check out the screenshot below:
Target For Next 3 Months
I am hoping to see an increase in both earnings and traffic over the next 3 months. Here’s what I hope to see by December 2020:
- Traffic: 15000 users/mth
- Earnings: SGD3000 in December
- # of Post: 150
And by December, I will be actively looking for buyers for the site and hoping to flip it for SGD100,000 or at least SGD80,000.
With that, I am going to end this MELEPAK session. I hope you find this update useful especially for those who have been following. If you have any question or feedback, please comment them below. Thank you and stay safe!
